3-Block Winter Festival on First Street in La Salle.

Bourbon and Cream Liqueur Tasting

Thank you for participating in the Frosty on First Bourbon Tasting! Below are a few tasting notes you can consider while trying these unique bourbons. You can find this information and seek out additional tasting notes on other bourbons at breakingbourbon.com. Not interested in bourbon? No problem! The event bar also has a Cream Liqueur tasting consisting of: Baileys Cookies & Cream, Hard Truth Maple Bourbon Cream, Iowish Salted Caramel, Five Farms Irish Cream, and Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream.

Eagle Rare

Nose: Upfront, it has strong scents of orange peels and citrus mixed with aged oak. Lingering on the nose longer, you can pick up scents of toasted marshmallow drizzled with honey. Palate: Upfront, notes of honey, toasted brown sugar, new oak, and light traces of white pepper are all present. Finish: The finish continues the trend of sweetness that is found in the nose and palate. Medium in length, the most predominant notes are bubble gum, toffee, and honey. Light traces of vanilla and dry leather round out the finish.

Weller Special Reserve

Nose: Classic aromas of vanilla, caramel, and honey gently waft up from the glass. This is punctuated by a light trace of oak along with a floral note, which requires a strong inhale to pull forth. Palate: The bourbon maintains its abundant sweetness on the palate, delivering a tasty yet classic mix of honey, caramel, vanilla, and light fruit. A very slight amount of oak rounds things out. Finish: The slightest amount of heat appears, followed by a more intense oak note. Honey and caramel reappear, capping things off on a sweeter note.

Blanton's

Nose: A bouquet of honey, vanilla, light bubble gum, and orange citrus peel opens things up. Lying gently beneath are hints of barrel char and toasted sugars that tussle with floral notes. Light cinnamon and baking spices top things off. Palate: Houses notable flavors of light caramel, honey, muted vanilla, and brown sugar. Underlying them are leather, charred oak, and a rye spice, which bubbles to the top. Finish: Vanilla, caramel, leather, dry oak, rye spice, and light peppercorn cap things off. There’s a pleasing sweet heat that lingers once all the other flavors fade.

Stagg

Nose: A nicely constructed aroma of molasses, brown sugar, and nutmeg. Cherry and honey notes develop and beautifully entwine with the heavier, darker scents. Palate: The palate is packed with flavor. Notes of vanilla, caramel, chocolate, brown sugar, and molasses come in like a freight train, nicely balanced, yet forceful, and muting some of the proof’s heat. Finish: The finish and crescendos with a burst of tasty brown sugar-fueled heat. A very minor bitter note tries to intrude, but gets quickly drowned out in a delicious wash of rich seasoned oak and vanilla slurry.

Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch

Nose: Butterscotch, caramel, warmed baked multigrain bread, and hints of liquorice and dried raisins, all of which are undermined by a heavy, hanging dose of alcohol. Palate: Plump dried raisins, lightly charred oak, and vanilla. Finish: Vanilla, light tobacco, leather, and white pepper, along with a pleasant burn. As flavors dissipate, a dry, leathery flavor dusted with a slight hint of white pepper and dried apricot remains.
